Quick answer: Bosch Motorsport supplies the ABS M5 in three kit tiers. The Clubsport kit pairs the full M5 hardware with a universal wiring harness and is the tier most club-level, time-attack and tarmac-rally cars run. Kit 1 is built around a vehicle-specific loom and unlocks the M5's advanced control functions, slip strategies tuned for aero load, lateral G and trail braking. Kit 2 is Kit 1 with Autosport-specification connectors on the wheel-speed sensor leads, for cars where wheel-end hardware comes off constantly. All three are supplied in Australia by 909 Motorsport, an Authorized Bosch Motorsport Dealer.
What every tier shares
Every ABS M5 kit is the same core system: the M5 hydraulic unit with attached ECU, six-axis inertial sensing, wheel-speed sensors, brake pressure sensors, a 12-position map switch, warning lamp and loom. Eleven selectable racing calibrations, changed from the cabin, wet circuit through to slicks, and the system runs independently of engine management, so it works alongside any ECU. The full system story is in our Bosch Motorsport ABS guide; this page is only about choosing between the tiers.
Clubsport: the club racer's specification
The Clubsport kit pairs the complete M5 system with a universal harness designed to suit engine-bay and front-footwell mounting locations. That standardisation is what brings the price down, the hardware controlling your brakes is not reduced.
Clubsport is ordered in six configurations: three wheel-speed sensor types (DF11i, DF11S, DF11V) across two CAN bus speeds (1 Mbaud or 500 kbaud, to match the rest of your car's CAN network). One detail that matters at order time: the DF11S configurations include four wheel-speed sensors in the box; the DF11i and DF11V configurations do not, sensors are specified and ordered to suit the car. Getting that combination right for your hubs, tone rings and network is exactly the conversation to have with us before ordering.
On the switch, position 1 is the most sensitive calibration, the heavy-rain map, and the settings progress toward slick-tyre grip from there.
This is the tier most of the cars we support run, including outright time-attack winners on production-based braking systems. Clubsport kits are typically the fastest to supply, usually within days. Our customer car overview shows what they're doing with it.
Kit 1: the vehicle-specific tier
Kit 1 is built around a vehicle-specific wiring loom rather than the universal harness, with CAN-based map selection and flexible CAN configuration for integrating the ABS into the rest of the car's electronics.
Beyond the loom, Kit 1 (and Kit 2) can run the M5's advanced control functions:
- Downforce-dependent slip, adjusts wheel-slip targets with aerodynamic load, so the calibration tracks the grip your aero is actually generating as speed changes.
- Lateral deceleration slip, optimises ABS intervention while the car is still carrying lateral G, rather than treating every stop as a straight line.
- Inside wheel slip reduction, minimises inside-wheel lock-up while trail braking into a corner.
- ABS Off, position 1 on the function switch becomes a full ABS disable (on Clubsport, position 1 is the wet map instead).
These functions are configured with Bosch Motorsport engineering involvement for each program. That level of support used to be the preserve of factory GT and prototype efforts; as the Authorized Dealer, we can now bring the same service to individuals and small teams. If your car generates real downforce, or you're braking beyond about −2 g, this tier and a calibration conversation is where to start.
Kit 1 is built to order; lead times run to a few weeks rather than days.
Kit 2: Kit 1 with Autosport connectors
Kit 2 is Kit 1 with Autosport-specification connectors on the wheel-speed sensor leads. If corner assemblies come off the car every event, endurance programs, cars that travel, anything on a professional service schedule, motorsport connectors at the wheel ends are what survive that life. Which one, honestly
| Your program | Start here |
|---|---|
| Club sprints, hillclimbs, track days | Clubsport |
| Time attack on production-based brakes | Clubsport; it's what the winners run |
| Tarmac rally | Clubsport, plus the install conversation |
| Real aero, slicks, braking beyond −2 g | Kit 1, with a calibration conversation |
| Endurance racing, frequent corner-assembly service | Kit 2 |
| Pro or factory-supported program | Kit 1 or Kit 2, talk to us about engineering support |
If the honest answer for your car is the cheapest tier, that's the answer we'll give you; an M5 on the wet map at the right moment is worth more than any specification difference.
The same choice, integrated for your car
For a growing list of platforms we go one step further than the Bosch tiers: our vehicle-specific integration kits package the M5 with the wheel-speed sensing, mounts and hardware developed for that exact car: GT-R, S-chassis, EVO, S2000, GR Yaris, Exige and more. Each of those kits is available with your choice of Bosch core kit, so the Clubsport / Kit 1 / Kit 2 decision carries straight through.
Every install we supply is commissioned before handover, and custom calibration development with Bosch Motorsport engineering support is available for cars that outgrow the standard maps. Not sure where your car lands? Talk to us; matching the kit to the car is the part we do every week.
